POISON EMERGENCY TREATMENT
POISON EMERGENCY TREATMENT – SPEED CAN SAVE YOUR ANIMAL’S LIFE!
1. The most important is to get the animal to vomit:
1 teaspoon washing powder dissolved in a cup of lukewarm boiled water – feed with a syringe into the mouth but take care that it does not get into the animal’s lungs.
It is however critical for the animal to vomit! ENSURE THAT YOU ALWAYS HAVE A TEASPOON OF WASHING POWDER READY FOR ANY EMERGENCY!
2. After vomiting, feed 5-6 activated charcoal tablets (available at any ‘human’ pharmacy) to absorb the remaining poison.
If you do not have activated charcoal tablets, burn 4 slices of white bread to cinders (black) in the oven and roll into a ‘pellet’ with a bit of lukewarm boiled water
and give slowly but as soon as possible to absorb and neutralise the poison in the stomach. It is activated carbon.
With 2-Step of ALDICARB poisoning:
- above two steps always first – this requires intravenous administration of Atropine which should only be done by your Vet.
If the vein cannot be found, it can be injected under the skin. You require the services of your Vet to also supply cortisone, antihistamine and other medications.
- above two steps always first – then Kyrovite, also known as Vitamin K – in jection (in the vein, otherwise under the skin) and/or
Vitamin K tablets as prescribed – available at your Vet. You require the services of your Vet to also supply cortisone, antihistamine and other medications.
Follow first two steps as above – then smear some meat tenderiseron the tongue/gums; thereafter plain white Greek full/double cream yoghurt and rooibos tea black without sugar.
